Nine must-do Winona activities

It may be hard to believe, but the year is winding down. If you’re a senior, there are a few Winona staples that you need to see and do before you leave campus. If you’ll be returning in the fall, take note and start making plans for next year!

Garvin Heights

This is the ultimate scenic overlook. You get beautiful views of the bluffs, the lake, the town, and the river. It’s a breathtaking sight in all seasons that everyone should experience at least once!

Minnesota Marine Art Museum

Even people who don’t usually enjoy museums can find something to like about the Marine Art Museum. It is home to paintings from famous artists including Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir,  and Matisse.

Lake Winona

Besides the gorgeous views of the bluffs and water, the lake is a great place to kayak, fish, walk, and have cookouts. Be sure you get there at least once for a scenic jog, a visit to the rose garden, or an event at the bandshell.

Mugby Junction

Everyone has to drink at least one coffee from this iconic Winona cafe. Mugby is a community favorite and is loved by coffee drinkers all over town.

Mississippi River

Winona is fortunate to sit on the river, so don’t miss out on taking advantage of it during your time here. Take a boat tour or have lunch in Levee Park on a warm spring day.

Bloedow’s Bakery

If you haven’t had a warm donut from Bloedow’s on a Saturday morning yet, it might be time to make it a priority. They were voted best donut shop in Minnesota by WCCO in 2012, and continue to be a Winona favorite. If you’re not in the mood for a donut, try a cookie or fresh-baked bread.

Lakeview Drive Inn

This isn’t your typical burger joint. Lakeview Drive Inn is a traditional drive-in experience and has been around since 1938. They make their root beer from scratch and their food is made to order. Next time you are craving fast food, check out this iconic Winona restaurant instead.

Trolley tour

You may have seen the red Trester Trolley making its way around town. If you are eager to learn about Winona’s history and do some sightseeing, this can be a fun and relaxing activity to do with friends. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience this local icon.

Antique shop

Treasures Under Sugar Loaf is one of Winona’s hidden gems. Nestled below sugar loaf, the antique shop is a favorite weekend pastime for many. Spend an afternoon poking around the enormous collection of items and find something whimsical to remember your visit by!
