The Saint Mary’s community had much cause for celebration Tuesday during the events of this year’s Founders’ Day. The day began with Mass in the Saint Thomas More Chapel at 10:45 a.m. At 1:15 p.m., students, faculty and staff were invited to Convocation in the Page Theatre. During Convocation, four people were honored with awards. John (Jack) McClure, Ph.D., program director of Ed.D. in Leadership, was presented with the Saint Mary’s University Distinguished Lasallian Educator award. Susan Hines, Ed.D., director of faculty development, was presented with the Bishop Patrick Heffron Award. The 2018 outstanding female and male seniors were Regina Bettag and Daniel Olajonlu. The Convocation celebration was followed by a reception in the Hall of Fame Room.
Soon after, ground was broken on a new residence hall. The new building, which is being named after Brother William, will house freshmen students and will be built attached to Pines Hall. Pines Hall has been renamed to Bishops Hall to honor the bishops of the Diocese of Winona. At 6 p.m., a renaming ceremony was held at which a plaque was unveiled and Bishops Hall was blessed.
The day was one of celebration and honor for the Saint Mary’s community.
