The moment they’ve been waiting for is just five days away.
This Saturday, Saint Mary’s University is hosting its 2016 commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. in the Saint Mary’s Gymnasium. The ceremony will be preceded by a Baccalaureate Mass in the Saint Thomas More Chapel at 8 a.m. and followed by a reception in the plaza.
At the ceremony, Outstanding Seniors Mark Schumacher and Paige Nelles will each give a speech. Two students from the School of Graduate and Professional Programs, Seth Luedtke and Catherine Mann, will speak about their graduate final papers. The graduates of Winona-based SGPP programs will also receive their diplomas.
“I am doing my best to talk about two things that Saint Mary’s has taught us in our time here,” Nelles said. “The first is the ability to ask for help, and the second is building meaningful relationships.”

Graduating senior Macki Fadness perhaps summed up the thoughts of many awaiting their diplomas this weekend: “I am so thankful that this goodbye is so difficult because it means my time here was worth it.”
The commencement will be available on a live stream for those who are unable to attend. The link for this broadcast is to be announced. In the event of rain, the reception will be held in the Gostomski Fieldhouse.
From all of us here at the Cardinal Newsblog, congratulations on your graduation, seniors! We cannot wait to see where your futures take you.
