Saint Mary’s University hosted TEC 74 at the Alverna Conference Center in Winona over the weekend of March 4-6. It was another weekend of new experiences for all involved.
TEC, also known as Together Encountering Christ, is a weekend event sponsored by Campus Ministry that offers students a chance to grow in both community and spirituality in a comfortable environment. The weekend is full of surprises and fun events for the students who attend, commonly referred to as “TECites.” TEC occurs once during each semester and is open to all students on campus. TEC is a unique experience, so students can only attend as a TECite once. After that, they are welcome to apply to be a part of the TEC team and experience the event from the other side of the table.

Saint Mary’s has been holding TEC retreats for about 35 years. Each TEC experience is individualistic in the fact that different people work it each time. No two TEC crews are ever the same. Despite this unique aspect of the retreat, each TEC brings the same qualities of new experiences and growth to those involved.
Maggie Vetch, a freshman who worked the retreat, said it was a fantastic experience. “Being on the other side of the experience and watching my peers grow in faith and community was a beautiful thing to see,” she said. “I am grateful for all who attended and worked TEC 74. They made the experience unique from other retreats similar to this one.”
Dean of Campus Ministry Steven McGlaun has been involved in eight TECs thus far. He believes that it was a good weekend for all who participated. “Both TEC retreats this year were amazing experiences,” he said. “I think one of the greatest things that happens is that members of the Saint Mary’s community discover or are reminded that they are a part of a family that values them and that they are loved by God no matter where they are on their faith journey.”
