As graduation steadily approaches, seniors preparing for life after college may be anxious about the challenges of beginning a career path. Ease those worries by discovering how to land a dream job at the first of a three-workshop series on tips and tricks to begin a career on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 3:30 p.m. in Hendrickson 23.
According to Michael Hagarty, director of Career Services and Internships, “The workshops are for seniors and other career-minded people to help them develop a career plan, or what I call a job search action plan; build their network and networking strategies; learn to interview and land a job.”
Participants in the first session, “Career Planning 101,” will focus on where the jobs are and how to find them, what employers are looking for and how to market yourself, and résumé best practices and checklists.
The second session, “Networking, Networking, Networking,” aims to develop knowledge and skills around social networking to land good jobs or internship opportunities.
And the third session, “Interviewing, Negotiating, and Landing a Job,” will give advice on interview preparation, expectations, and tips to help students know questions and strategies for developing answers in an interview — as well as how to negotiate an offer.
Students are encouraged to attend one, two, or all three sessions.
