Five minutes with basketball player Emma Schaefer

School is back in session and most students are still readjusting to life on campus after the first week. Unknown to many, most of the winter athletes have been back at Saint Mary’s for much longer as they continued practicing and participating in games or meets while everyone else was at home.
One such athlete is junior basketball player Emma Schaefer. Schaefer and the other members of the women’s team have been enjoying a stellar season so far, with a record of 7-1 in the MIAC and 13-2 overall. In anticipation of the game this Wednesday versus Hamline University, we asked Schaefer a few serious—and a few not so serious—questions about the basketball team.

Cardinal staff: What are you looking forward to about the rest of this season?
Emma: I am really looking forward to the team atmosphere and energy we have this year. Every year has been great, but this year, especially the team is really close and clicking.

C: Do you have any pregame rituals?
E: I don’t have any specific ritual but I like to get a couple extra shots up before our warm-up officially begins.

C: What’s the best postgame meal?
E: It is always a good day when you get a Chipotle burrito, but if we have a home game I definitely like a walking taco (no onion, no sour cream) from the Cardinal Club.

C: What is your go-to song?
E: I don’t have a go-to song but the team has really been loving Justin Bieber lately.

C: What is your favorite basketball memory?
E: Freshman year we went to the NCAA tournament and it was a very cool experience and a fun team to be a part of.

The women’s game versus Hamline is this Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Saint Mary’s gym.
