As fall sports wrap up, seniors on all seven fall teams are looking back on their careers and the incredible memories and accomplishments of the past four years.
The eleven Saint Mary’s men’s soccer seniors ended their careers in storybook fashion with a 3-0 win over Finlandia University. All three goals were scored by departing seniors. Co-captains Cody Balogh and Ryan Geidner orchestrated the first goal when Balogh found Geidner’s head on a cross for a final beautiful collaboration. Fernando Camacho added an unassisted goal 20 minutes later. Finally, Joe Bosco closed out the scoring with 18 minutes left in the game off an assist from Sean Butcher (So). The Cardinal defense was also backed by another captain and senior, Evan Claffy, who made seven saves in the win.

Balogh spoke about the significance of playing in his last game, saying, “It was really special to see all of us out there together after everything we have been through together over the past four years.” He also attested to the surreal feeling of having reached the twilight of his soccer career, saying, “It feels like yesterday I was walking out for the first day of preseason. It goes by so fast.” Balogh advises his younger teammates or underclassmen in any sport to “every once in awhile, take a step back and take it all in and just enjoy being out there with your teammates playing the game you love.
“It does end,” Balogh said finally. “Looking back, the best memories aren’t going to only be on the field, but off the field as well.”
