The Saint Mary’s swimmers competed against each other during their first annual intrasquad meet on Friday, Oct. 30.

The meet, held in the Jul Gernes Pool, allowed the swimmers a chance to have a little fun while still remaining competitive. The captains of the swim team picked teams, and those teams swam against each other in various shortened events. The divers performed six individual dives. It was still an official swim meet and the times were recorded.

There were two teams, which were called the Red and Blue Teams. The Red Team members were picked by captains Christina Weldai, Grace Van Beest, and Andrew Eggersgluss. Members of the Red Team included Shea Tandberg, Hannah Emeott, Geraldina Muliville, E.J. Leif, Paula Avila, Brian Mockler, Lucas Gerads, Nick Sawchuk, and diver Kierra Walske.

The Blue Team members were picked by captains Sarah Fanning and P.J. Heller. Swimmers on the Blue Team included Chloe Morrison, Claire Judeh, Caroline Hoffman, Reese Galewski, Abby Propsom, Joe Tonda, Zac Finkelstein, Lucas Rukavina, and divers Ailie Davidson and Shelby Peterson.

For the men’s team, the Blue Team outscored the Red Team with 237.5 points. For the women’s team, the Red Team won with 280 points. However, the overall winner was the Blue Team, which had 472.5 points compared to the Red Team’s 457.5 points.

“I really liked the intrasquad meet because it gave the team the opportunity for some friendly in-house competition,” team captain Grace Van Beest said. “It was a great way to kick off our season because it gave everyone a chance to race in different events, like short distance, that we won’t get to see again until our meet at Luther College in January.”
