Cardinal sports by the numbers – Oct. 25

WINONA, Minn. — It’s time to take one final look back at the highlights of the week that was — by the numbers.

1: Molly Homeyer (Arlington, Texas) recorded her first collegiate goal during the Cardinal women’s soccer team’s 5-2 win over Martin Luther last Wednesday. Homeyer is the fifth player to net her first goal in a Saint Mary’s uniform this season.

2: Chris Beiersdorf (Arlington Heights, Ill.) recorded his first collegiate two-goal game last Wednesday in the Cardinal men’s soccer team’s 3-0 victory over Martin Luther last Wednesday.

3: Emma Schaefer (Roseville, Minn.) scored a pair of goals for the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team in its 5-2 win over Martin Luther last Wednesday. It was her second multiple-goal game of the season—and third of her collegiate career.Schaefer scored a pair of goals against UW-Superior on Sept. 5, and netted her first collegiate hat trick in the Cardinals’ 7-0 win over UW-Superior a year ago.

4: With their 1-1 tie against St. Thomas last Saturday, the Cardinal men’s soccer team has now played four overtime games this season—boasting a 2-0-2 record.

3: With his two goals against Martin Luther last Wednesday, Chris Beiersdorf (Arlington Heights, Ill.) became the third Cardinal men’s soccer player to record a multiple-goal game this season—Jared Wolt (Farmington, Minn.) notched his first collegiate two-goal game vs. Simpson on Sept. 23, while Kareem Rassas (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) recorded his first two-goal outing as a Cardinal against Cornell on Sept. 4.

3: With their 3-2 victory over Macalester last Saturday, the Saint Mary’s volleyball team locked up their third straight MIAC Playoff berth. The Cardinals head into their final two conference matches sitting tied for second place with Bethel at 7-2, two games behind league-leading Gustavus (9-0).

3: The Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak last Wednesday, scoring three goals in a 3-0 nonconference win over Martin Luther.

4: Jim Dreshar (Hugo, Minn.) netted his fourth goal of the season—moving him into a tie for the team lead with Jared Wolt (Farmington, Minn.)—to account for the Cardinal men’s soccer team’s goal in its 1-1 tie against St. Thomas last Saturday.

5: The Cardinal women’s soccer team’s five goals in their 5-2 win over Martin Luther last Wednesday were a season high—one more than the four they netted in a 4-0 win over UW-Superior on Sept. 5.

5: Last Saturday’s 3-2 win over Macalester marked the fifth time this season the Cardinal volleyball team has won after dropping the opening set.

6: All six of the Cardinal women’s soccer team’s wins this season—and nine of their last 11 victories—have come on their home field.

6: The Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team put an end to a six-game losing streak against St. Thomas with last Saturday’s 1-1 tie.

6: The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team’s 5-2 win over Martin Luther last Wednesday was its sixth of the season—the most wins by a Cardinal team since 2010, when they finished 7-9-0.

8: Eight of the Cardinal men’s soccer team’s last 10 wins—including Wednesday’s3-0 victory over Martin Luther—have come on their home turf.

12/15/20: Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.) led the Cardinal volleyball team in kills in both matches last weekend, collecting 12 kills against Bethel and 15 vs. Macalester. Fadness, who leads the team with 303 kills, has recorded 10 or more kills in 20 of the team’s 26 matches.

18/22: With her 19-dig effort against Bethel and 21-dig showing vs. Macalester, Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.) has recorded 10 or more digs in 22 of the Cardinal volleyball team’s 26 matches—including each of the last 18 straight.

1,295: Aubrie Cornell (Columbia, Mo.) started her 15th consecutive game in goal for the Cardinal women’s soccer team against Martin Luther last Wednesday. The junior goalkeeper had her string of 1,295 consecutive minutes played snapped when Sarah Sieracki (Schererville, Ind.) came in to relieve her 29 minutes into the Cardinals’ 5-2 win over the Knights.
