WINONA, Minn. — It’s Monday morning, and time to take one final look back at the highlights of the week that was — by the numbers.

0 x 2: The Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team posted its second straight 0-0, double-overtime tie last Tuesday, getting an eight-save performance from goalkeeper Evan Claffy (Joliet, Ill.) in a 0-0 stalemate vs. Gustavus. It marked the first time since 1994 that the Cardinals have played back-to-back 0-0 contests.

1: Last Wednesday’s 1-0 conference loss to Gustavus was the first overtime game of the season for the Cardinal women’s soccer team.

1: Anna Taylor (St. Paul, Minn.) netted her first collegiate goal for the Cardinal women’s soccer team in its 3-1 loss to Concordia last Saturday.

2: Chris Trussel (Wenatchee, Wash.) scored his second goal of the season for the Cardinal men’s soccer team in its 2-1 loss to Concordia last Saturday.

3: The Cardinal men’s soccer team’s 2-1 loss at Concordia last Saturday snapped a streak of three straight overtime games for the Cardinals—who beat Simpson 3-2 in OT, while tying Bethel (0-0) and Gustavus (0-0) in double overtime.

4: Warren Lawrenz (Rochester, Minn.) and Alex Holm (Red Wing, Minn.) teamed up to post four straight wins for the Cardinal men’s tennis team at the Gustavus Midwest Open last weekend. The Cardinal duo collected wins of 8-2, 8-4, 8-5, and 8-6 to open tournament play, before dropping a heartbreaker in the semifinals, falling to UW-La Crosse’s Sam Gowan and Mdekim Dejene, 8-6.

4: The Saint Mary’s volleyball team has dropped just four sets in their last nine contests, sweeping St. Catherine (twice), UW-River Falls, Ripon, and Concordia, while beating St. Norbert, Hamline, and St. Thomas—and falling to Saint Benedict—by 3-1 counts.

5: Five of the seven Cardinals competing for the men’s tennis team at the Gustavus Midwest Open came away with opening-round victories. Brenden Amiotte (Rapid City, S.D.), Brett Giesen (Cato, Wis.), Alex Holm (Red Wing, Minn.), and Warren Lawrenz (Rochester, Minn.) all recorded straight-set wins—Amiotte 6-1, 6-0 over Macalester’s Clay Crager, Giesen 6-1, 6-0 against Edgewood’s Matt Hruska, Holm 6-4, 6-0 against Saint John’s Michael Thompson, and Lawrenz 6-1, 6-4 vs. Bethel’s Peter Lindberg—while Alex Zuzek (Hastings, Minn.) rallied from a set down to beat Bethany Lutheran’s Dexter Jackson, 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.

6: Last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Concordia was the Cardinal men’s soccer team’s sixth game decided by one goal or less.

11: Aubrie Cornell (Columbia, Mo.) recorded a season-high 11 saves in the Cardinal women’s soccer team’s 1-0 overtime loss to Gustavus last Wednesday. Cornell’s effort was two saves shy of her career-high 13-save effort, recorded on Oct. 23, 2013 against UW-La Crosse.
