WINONA, Minn. — It’s Monday morning, and time to take one final look back at the highlights of the week that was — by the numbers.
0: The Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team battled Bethel to a 0-0 double-overtime draw last Saturday. It was the Cardinals’ first scoreless deadlock since Oct. 19, 2011, when they settled for a 0-0 tie vs. Viterbo.
1: Maddy Wallraff (Blaine, Minn.) netted her first collegiate goal in the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team’s 2-0 conference win over Bethel last Saturday. Wallraff is the third Saint Mary’s player to net her first goal in a Cardinal uniform this season—Becca Dup (Albert Lea, Minn.) and Janis Martinez (Las Vegas, Nev.) are the others.
2: Jared Wolt (Farmington, Minn.) collected his first collegiate two-goal game in the Cardinal men’s soccer team’s 3-2 win over Simpson last Wednesday. Wolt scored Saint Mary’s final two goals in the win over the Storm—including the game-winner 4:22 into overtime.
3: Emily Loof (Colorado Springs, Colo.) collected her team-leading third assist of the season—assisting on Emma Schaefer’s (Roseville, Minn.) first-half goal—in the Cardinal women’s soccer team’s 2-0 win over Bethel last Saturday.
4: Jenna Sullivan (Woodbury, Minn.) posted her fourth double-double of the season for the Saint Mary’s volleyball team against St. Thomas last Saturday, recording 15 kills and 16 assists.
4: Megan Vandenberg (De Pere, Wis.) posted four straight singles victories in winning her division during the Gustavus Fall Invitational women’s tennis tournament last weekend. Vandenberg did not drop a set in winning 8-0, and 6-0, 6-0 in her first two matches, before adding 6-1, ,7-5, and 6-4, 6-1 triumphs in the semifinals and finals.
6: Evan Claffy (Joliet, Ill.) stopped all six shots he faced against Bethel last Saturday in leading the Cardinal men’s soccer team to a 0-0 double-overtime. It was Claffy’s second shutout of the season and third of his collegiate career.
7: Aubrie Cornell (Columbia, Mo.) stopped all seven shots she faced in helping the Cardinal women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Bethel last Saturday. It was Cornell’s second collegiate shutout—she also posted a four-save shutout against UW-Superior on Sept. 5.
7/14: The Cardinal volleyball team pushed its winning streak to a season-high seven straight—while snapping a 14-match losing streak against St. Thomas—with last Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Tommies.
13: Molly Urban (Roseville, Minn.) hammered out a career-high 13 kills in the Cardinal volleyball team’s 3-1 conference win over St. Thomas last Saturday.
17/12: Maddie Hess (Lewiston, Minn.) reached career highs in both assists (17) and digs (12) en route to her first collegiate double-double in the Cardinal volleyball team’s 3-1 win over St. Thomas last Saturday.
18: Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.) equaled her season- and career-high with 18 kills in the Cardinal volleyball team’s 3-1 MIAC win over Hamline last Wednesday. Fadness has now notched 18 kills in a match three times in her collegiate career—including twice this season.
68: Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) carded a career- and school-best four-under-par 68 to grab the first-round lead in the 36-hole Midwest Region Classic last Friday at the Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake, Wis. Westerberg followed that up with a second-round 75 to win medalist honors with a one-under 143.
83/81: Haley Jung (Monticello, Minn.) posted career-best scores twice last weekend in leading the Saint Mary’s women’s golf team to a second-place finish at the Luther Invitational. Jung shot a then-career low 83 in last Friday’s opening round, before whittling two shots off that effort with a career-best 81 in Saturday’s final round. Jung finished third overall with her 164 total.
