Saint Mary’s University is about to celebrate its 12th annual Cardinal Days starting Monday, Sept. 14 and ending Saturday, Sept. 19.

Catherine Burgraff, one of the students organizing this year’s Cardinal Days, describes it as, “kind of like a Saint Mary’s homecoming week. It’s a time to participate in activities that boost school spirit.”

Students can look forward to many different activities to participate in during the week. Burgraff, Student Activities Director Lance Thompson, and Kiya Virgin have been working and planning for the 2015 Cardinal Days since last spring and are very excited for the upcoming week.

Burgraff said they are starting out with a block party in the plaza Monday night at 7 p.m. Activities include a comedian/stunt man, music, games, a photo booth, and more.

Burgraff also said that Big Red will be making an appearance in the Toner Student Center on Tuesday around lunch time. Later that night will be a SMUMN-themed craft at the women’s soccer game.

Wednesday is Wear Red Day! Students are encouraged to wear red and show school spirit. Burgraff said candy will be handed out in the RAC to all those wearing red. That day there will also be a tailgating party at 6:30p.m. in the Gazebo.

On Thursday Saint Mary’s is starting something new. “We are trying out a new event called ‘Saint Mary’s Got Talent’ where students can sign up with a talent to compete for a $100 cash prize,” said Burgraff.

There will be a game of “Capture the Cardinal” on Friday at Yon’s Field at 8 p.m. “It’s basically a giant game of capture the flag, but with a stuffed animal cardinal instead of a flag,” Burgraff said.

Cardinal Days usually has a large student turnout, but Burgraff said that they are always hoping for larger crowds. Students are encouraged to keep an eye out around campus for these events and to show their school spirit during Cardinal Days.
